We had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Homer Hinchliff of Willis, Michigan, who told us about his dad, Lt. Col. Edward Hinchliff, who was present in 1942 at the grand opening ceremony for the famous Willow Run Bomber Plant located just east of Ypsilanti. He also told us a great story about… rats on a plane!

Meet Chester and Jim, two friends who had very different experiences of Allied bombing efforts during World War II: Jim from the air, and Chester from the ground.

Paul Scheffler worked for the City of Ann Arbor prior to joining the Marines, and remembers clearing the path on Stadium Boulevard for the huge trucks ferrying B-24 bombers to Texas from the Willow Run Bomber Plant. He participated in the battles of Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima.
